Kings Of Leon Release “Temple” Music Video

kings of leon dallasKings of Leon have unveiled a new music video for their hit “Temple,” off their latest release, Mechanical Bull. The video mixes performance shots with video of the Followill brothers’ children frolicking around the band’s hometown of Nashville, and yes, it’s as cute as it sounds. The video is a production of Followill cousin, Christopher “Nacho” Followill, who uses his media company, NachoVision to bring Kings of Leon fans behind the scenes footage from the road. Check out the video below. Continue reading ‘Kings Of Leon Release “Temple” Music Video’

Oscars 2014 Music Recap: Jared Leto, U2, Karen O, Vampire Weekend

Jared letoThe Oscars may not have been as music-packed as January’s Grammy Awards, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for a couple stand-out performances, and even a little award action for 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto.

Just months after receiving a Golden Globe for best supporting actor, 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto won an Oscar under the same category for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. In his acceptance speech, Leto not only thanked his mother, but “all the dreamers out there,” mentioning Ukraine and Venezuela, as he said “we are here and as you struggle to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible, we’re thinking of you tonight.”

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig performed a beautiful rendition of their track, “The Moon Song” from Her. The track was up against “Happy” from Despicable Me 2, “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, ”Let It Go” from Frozen, and “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the film of the same name.

Also taking the stage was U2 with a performance of “Ordinary Love.” No strangers to being Oscar nominees (the band was nominated in 2003 for “The Hands That Built America”), the band gave a moving performance, playing against a backdrop of photos of the late Nelson Mandela.
You can view a full list of the evening’s winners here.

Franz Ferdinand Streams “Erdbeer Mund”

franz-ferdinand-underIt’s not every day you see popular artists tackling new tracks in a foreign tongue—but that’s exactly what Franz Ferdinand have done with their new track, “Erdbeer Mund.” Sung in German, the song comes as a B-side to the band’s new single, “Fresh Strawberries,” itself taken from their latest album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. No matter the language, the track is pretty catchy and worth a spin. You can check it out and download for free below, and catch the band on tour all through August.  Continue reading ‘Franz Ferdinand Streams “Erdbeer Mund”’

Kanye West To Release ‘Yeezus’ Film In Theaters

kanye-west-i don't likeI have to admit, I haven’t been one of those swept away by the recent Yeezus phenomenon, though Kanye‘s most recent album did receive some pretty high praise, including two Grammy nominations (though according to Kanye, he definitely deserved even more nominations. Two just won’t do.)  But for those who felt Yeezus was snubbed by so few nominations, or who simply don’t want to see the album fade away, you won’t have to. Directed by Hype Williams (Belly), Kanye is bringing Yeezus to the silver screen. Unfortunately, the details are pretty scant right now, but you can check out a short trailer for the film here. Will you be seeing Yeezus when it hits theaters?

Jordan Corey: OurStage Artist Of The Week

jordan corey“A Stax Records vibe with an indie twist.” This is what Jordan Corey, our Artist of the Week, set out to achieve with her most recent recordings, and she has succeeded admirably. Truthfully, this has long been her vibe, but she just keeps getting better at it. And with the recent release of her Trilogy – a fan-funded trio of songs, each with an accompanying video – she has surpassed “throwback” to create original and insistently modern music.

James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) Launches New Espresso Blend

lcdsoundsystemYou hear about a lot of musicians delving into strange (yet kind of quirky) ventures like beer or even hot sauce. And while those are pretty cool, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) has just announced a new venture that I can really get behind. A new espresso blend. Named House of Good, Murphy has partnered up with Blue Bottle Coffee Company’s founder James Freeman to collaborate on the “supremely balanced espresso.” Describing the taste, Blue Bottle says, “Its flavor profile – dried cherry, cocoa, meyer lemon – is a harmony between the voluptuous and the austere: It’s akin to the second movement of Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 – or, perhaps, to that buzzing, syncopated synth line from ’Dance Yrself Clean.’ Depends on which James you ask.”

You can get a taste  at Blue Bottle’s new shop in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn or order online. But be warned, it will run you $26 a pound.
