The Lumineers Perform On Saturday Night Live

Between the recent success of Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters and Men, and now Denver-based act, The Lumineers, folk music has been making some pretty big waves lately. And with reason – after all, there’s something undeniably catchy and perhaps even endearing about tracks like The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey.”

Performing last weekend on the Saturday Night Live stage at NBC’s famed studio 8H, The Lumineers performed “Ho Hey,” along with a new track called, “Stubborn Love.” As catchy as their previous hit (dare we say more so?), it’s just a matter of time before you’ll hear “Stubborn Love” circulating radio stations across the nation. You can check out both performances right here.

The Strokes To Release New Album In 2013

The Strokes

Finally one music rumor has been laid to rest. After a Seattle radio station announced that it had a brand new Strokes track titled “All The Time,” the Internet instantly came alive with speculation about a possible new album from the band. Now, we don’t like to encourage rumors or speculation (except most of the time), but as it turns out, they weren’t lying. The Strokes’ fifth studio album is set to be released later this year, and the aforementioned “All The Time” is indeed the first single.

“We have songs that you can tell are gonna be good ones (that) we’re all excited to play,” explained guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., speaking to Billboard in 2011, ”I don’t know if we’re the kind of band that would ever play something new before it came out, just the way the Internet works and people recording it. I think even if we had the whole record done, we wouldn’t play it ’til the album was out.”

John Mayer Makes First Live Appearance In Two Years At Montana Benefit Show

John Mayer recently made his first live performance in almost two years at a benefit concert for the Montana firefighters who battled the summer wildfires that blazed through the Paradise Valley region of the state. Mayer, who owns a house in the area, was not home during the summer fires, but still felt an obligation to give back to those who had aided the region with their service. At the time of the blaze, Mayer was in Los Angeles receiving treatment for growths near his vocal cords that forced him to cancel the planned tour for his latest album, Born and Raised. His recovery seems nearing completion, as he was able to carefully belt out a few tunes that can be heard via the fan-captured videos below. The sold-out gig raised over $100,000 and also featured performances from members of the Zach Brown Band.

Album Review: Dropkick Murphys – ‘Signed And Sealed In Blood’

Being from Boston, it’s hard to go a day without hearing about the new album from Dropkick Murphys. Though they have seven studio albums out already, the promise of new irish punk jams from the group that has served as this city’s personal soundtrack since 1996 is enough to get people talking, and this time there is plenty to discuss.

Signed And Sealed In Blood is the first new material to surface from Dropkick Murphys since 2011′s Going Out In Style. As a whole, the album showcases the Murphys at their absolute finest, with more than enough chants, heartfelt lyricism, and foot-stomping anthems to ensure their status as America’s go-to irish punk outfit lasts for years to come. There is a certain undeniable hook to the opening lines of “The Boys Are Back” that reels in even the most distracted listener with the promise of good times to come. This continues into “Prisoner’s Song,” which fans of “Shipping Up To Boston” will likely lose their minds over as driving drums and gang vocals paint an audible portrait of a crew banding together aboard the seven seas. Phoenix Tease New Album With Seizure-Inducing Facebook Link

Phoenix have just posted the mysterious image on the left to their Facebook Page in a possible nod towards the upcoming release of their new album in April 2013. Daniel Glass, the head of the band’s label, Glassnote, indicated at a Spotify event in early December that the band had finished recording the follow-up to their 2009 indie smash Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in Paris. The link to Phoenix’ website currently leads visitors into a flashing multicolor version of the image that is not recommended if you are prone to seizures. If you’re willing to brave the madness, though, you can hear what sounds like a clip from a possible new Phoenix track.

The Airborne Toxic Event Release “Timeless”

Three album’s into their career, The Airborne Toxic Event are still proving they’ve got what it takes to turn an audience on their heads. Their latest single, “Timeless” is just that. Delivering a moving and anthemic chorus, “Timeless” holds its own in a sea of predecessors that The Airborne Toxic Event has made their norm.

“I remember thinking, ‘Don’t write like you’re an indie rock artist or an art-rock band, don’t write like you’re trying to write an Airborne song, don’t try to be you — just write what’s in your heart,’” Frontman Mikel Jollett explained. “It’s cheesy and it’s very Hallmark-y and I want to be like Kurt Cobain and say my whole life’s twisted and darker than that, but my deepest wish really is that.”

You can listen to the song right here and view the band’s tour dates after the jump. Continue reading ‘The Airborne Toxic Event Release “Timeless”’
