Russian Police Perform “Get Lucky” At Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

Russian Police OlympicsFirst of all, I didn’t even know there was such a thing as the Russian Police Choir, much less that they were fans of Daft Punk‘s hit, “Get Lucky.” (Where was I when they covered the track last November?) But Friday night at the Olympic Opening Ceremony, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Choir got all gussied up in their dark green and yellow uniforms just before letting Daft Punk’s music take over and spending the next five minutes boogying away for thousands of live audience members. Two lead singers stole the show (I mean, they were really into it) while others gave noteworthy bobs and sways, grooving to the music in the background. To be honest, it was kind of endearing. Check it out below or at NBCOlympics.com. Continue reading ‘Russian Police Perform “Get Lucky” At Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony’

The Shills: OurStage Artist Of The Week

the shillsIf you’re looking for it, it’s actually not too hard to find a new band you really dig. Most often, those artists are doing something that resonates with you because of your established tastes. It sounds familiar, it feels comfortable, and maybe there’s even an aspect of the music that’s unique. Much more rare, though, is to come across an act doing something completely different than what you might otherwise find in your music collection and still be affected by it. Such is the case with The Shills, a band that seems to blend so many varied influences as to produce music that cannot be so easily pigeonholed. Fresh off a second win in our Indie Pop channel, they are our latest Artist of the Week.

Watch Minor Alps’ New Video, “Waiting For You”

Minor Alps is the collaboration between Juliana Hatfield and Nada Surf‘s Matthew Caws, and for some reason that was not enough to make me rush to listen as soon as it became available, fool that I am. The music they’ve made together is everything you might hope for, with their complimentary voices providing airy harmonies throughout simply great songs.

They’ve just released a new video for the song “Waiting For You.” Directed by Emilie and Sarah Barbault, and filmed in Paris, the video follows a man and a woman wandering the same spots, but continually missing each other.

Check out the video below, and look for the full album Get There, available now.

Fall Out Boy, Ed Sheeran Cover Elton John

Fall Out Boy Visits fuseWe know, the title kind of implies this was a collaboration of sorts. But there are some collaborations that are just a little too odd to imagine, and Fall Out Boy with Ed Sheeran are among them. Though by the looks of it, something may be in the works. But for now, the two artists are simply showing their mutual love of Elton John in two separate covers, which will appear on a deluxe reissue of Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Also appearing on the cover album will be Hunter Hayes, the Zac Brown Band, and many more.
