Last month an astounding 1,408 artists competed for the chance to have their song produced by Mike Flynn of EPIC Records. Knowing Flynn was the producer behind notable acts such as The Fray and Sara Bareilles, it’s no surprise that the OurStage community jumped at this opportunity. In March’s Q&A with Mike Flynn, Flynn mentioned that, when deciding to sign an artist to the EPIC roster, he first and foremost looks for “a unique quality to the voice — something that sticks out.” With this description in mind, Mike Flynn’s camp chose singer-songwriter Kat Parsons, an internationally touring artist who recently released her debut album No Will Power to a mountain of support from fans (over $18,000 was raised in pre-order!) and industry leaders. CD Baby president Derek Sivers put Parson’s release on the CDBaby homepage, stating, “We’re REALLY picky about what goes on the front page. We get about 75 albums a day coming in here now (about 30,000 total) and No Will Power is one of the best I’ve ever heard!”
With Parson’s stunningly beautiful voice and drive to succeed, it’s obvious why she was selected for this honor. When notified of the win Kat said, “I am thrilled and honored to have won this competition. I am really looking forward to working with Mike Flynn and his team. It’s going to be so fun.
