In November Converse and OurStage joined forces to bring you the 2nd “Get Out of the Garage” Music Contest. Converse, along with Guitar Center and Journeys, wanted to send the best new acts in Rock and Urban music to play a career-making showcase in Austin this March. The gig in question? An opening slot for last year’s “Get Out of the Garage” winner, the Flying Machines, at the Levi’s/FADER fort! Over 6,500 artists were judged by fans on OurStage for a chance to play what could very well be their big break. From that 6,500, the competition was narrowed down to 10 high-ranking acts. Of those finalists, 2 acts were selected for the grand prize performance by a panel of judges who determined the winners based on their creativity, entertainment value, lyrics, melody and music. The grand prize winners will also be the lucky recipients of a $1,000 Guitar Center gift certificate and $1,000 in cash from OurStage! And now the moment you’ve been waiting for. . . the “Get Out of the Garage” Music Contest Winners!
Twank Star
No slouch in finding fans and success on OurStage, it comes as no surprise that Twank Star would come out on top in Urban “Get Out of the Garage” Channel. The Houston MC earned himself a solid track record with several top 10 chartings, a feature in AOL, and a recording contract in the T-Pain “Step in the Ring” challenge hosted by T-Pain and Nappy Boy Records. Expect him to get the crowd moving at the Levi’s/FADER Fort.
Southern Backtones
By mixing the sounds of moody Britrock with raw Texan swagger Southern Backtones found themselves toward the top of the charts in the Rock “Get Out of the Garage” channel. The video for their winning track “Forever” has seen airplay on MTV2 and MuchMusic in Canada. We have a hunch you’ll be hearing a lot more from these guys after they dominate in Austin.
Runners Up
OurStage would also like to congratulate all the contest runner ups for making this contest one of our most successful to date. All runner ups will be receiving Converse Shoes and a Guitar Center gift cerficate. We wish them the best of luck and hope they all continue to make great music!
