Portrait of AC Hook
More than just another singer song writer, Amputee artist AC Hook has embraced his differences, become a role model and is writing one of the greatest human interest stories in the history of country music. Of the thousands of inspiring singer songwriters that have flocked to Nashville, with the dream of stardom, what makes AC Hook unique is the fact that he can play the guitar and piano with one hand while performing. He taught him self to play the guitar at the age of eight by taping a ink pin to his right arm, which was amputated just below the elbow at the tender age of two. “When your trying to make a name for your self you need to have something that people can identify with and remember you by.” Johnny Paycheck gave me that advice and I’ve always tried to stay true to who I am, he states. As a child, other kids used to tease him calling him Captain Hook. Now, when he’s performing and people refer to him as “Hook” it makes him smile knowing that they except him despite his differences.
Ac Hook has overcome many obstacles in his past. He was selected as one of Americas’ top amateur athletes by the General Mills Corporation, played college football, and won a silver medal as a member of the 2006 USA Amputee Hockey team.
