About John Legend and Trouble City:
John Legend (born John Stephens) is an American R&B singer and pianist from Springfield, Ohio. From an early age, Legend was exposed to music, starting with his grandmother teaching him how to play gospel-style piano at age 3. His musical talent led him to connect with Kanye West, after rooming with West’s cousin Devon Harris (a.k.a. Devo Springsteen) at the University of Pennsylvania. Legend and West worked together on each other’s demos, which would both prove to be extraordinary albums. Legend’s album Get Lifted became a hit and launched his career into what it is today.
Renzo & Pat-G (a.k.a. ‘Trouble City’) landed a mentor session with John Legend for their top-notch performance in October’s competition on OurStage. Hailing from Louisiana, to Connecticut, to Boston, Lorenzo Marshall and Patrick Gouch have both seen their share of trouble in many different cities (hence the name ‘Trouble City’). Though they’ve rapped together since high school, they didn’t officially form their group until 2004. They gained much ground in Boston’s top clubs after re-working Ne-Yo’s hit single “So Sick”. They are looking to release both a demo and a mixtape in the coming year. Now with the inspiration of John Legend, it could prove to be something very special.
