Paste Magazine is one of the fastest growing independently published entertainment magazines in the country, recently named "Magazine of the Year" at the PLUG Independent Music Awards for the second consecutive year. We pride ourselves in being the premier magazine for people who still enjoy discovering new music, prize substance and songcraft over fads and manufactured attitude, and appreciate quality music in whatever genre it might inhabit--indie rock, Hip- Hop, Triple-A, Americana, folk, blues, jazz, etc. We're happy to bring you thoughtful analysis on the best in film, books and other aspects of popular (and alternative) culture.
PLUG is about the independent music community coming together to recognize our own. We're fans from every walk of the music world who gather together each year to celebrate the artists who live and flourish in the margins. PLUG is about the artists who inspire and the music that disrupts the artistic and corporate mediocrity that dominates our culture. Some of the artists on the ballot each year are well known to us, but most are nowhere close to the household names we know they deserve to be. We've discovered these records on blogs, in magazine blurbs, fanzines, recommendations from our local record store, in IM conversations, in links from friends and from passionate testimonials overheard in line outside a club. Assembled by and voted on by fans all over the world, the annual PLUG Ballot is the great mixtape traded among friends every year.

As the preeminent festival whose sole mission is to nurture, support and showcase truly independent works, Slamdance has established a unique reputation for premiering new films by first-time writers and directors working within the creative confines of limited budgets. As a year-round organization, Slamdance serves as a showcase for the discovery of new and emerging talent and is dedicated to the nurturing and development of new independent artists and their cinematic vision. Started in 1995 by a group of independent artists, the Slamdance Film Festival continues to be organized and programmed exclusively by filmmakers, for filmmakers. This is just one of many elements that make Slamdance a pioneering standout among its festival counterparts. Slamdance lacks much of the red tape and bureaucracy that can convolute the process that independent creators come to festivals for in the first place a chance to show their work. At Slamdance, the link between artist and festival and, subsequently, artist and industry is a direct and cohesive one. Slamdance alumni are recruited to serve as programmers, so first-timers are represented and assisted by Slamdance veterans. It's what put Slamdance on the festival map to begin with, and what's made it the viable, big-time contender it is today. Slamdance's 15th Annual Film Festival will take place January 15-23, 2009 in Park City, UT. Visit www.slamdance.com for more information.
