Start with 2 of the best selling artists of all time like Metallica and Jay-Z, stir it in a pot with Red Hot Chili Peppers and a dash of Rage Against the Machine. Cool for 5 minutes before ingesting and enjoy the wonderful flavor of Xombie.

One App You Need to Try This WeekendWe live in a weird new world where broadcasting where you are and what you’re doing to hundreds or thousands of people is totally normal.
But Fast Society is a new tool that lets you group text and talk to a select group of friends privately. It works on any phone that gets SMS messages, though they just released a slick iphone app that makes it super simple to find contacts, create a “team,” and share where you’re at (with your friends, not your followers).
Its uses are limitless. Already techy types at conferences like SXSW and the recent Tahoe Tech Talks have used it to chat amongst themselves or keep track of their colleagues in a crowd.
Bands are using to stay in touch and coordinate while on tour (NYC-based Xombie has used it to organize practices, flesh out song ideas, and even came up with their name while using the service). Several campaigns used it during the primaries to keep track of canvassers leading up to election day.
It’s also perfect for finding friends on a bar crawl, in an airport or Prospect Park, or any other place where you can want to keep in close contact with a few key people–up to 15 total–while you’re on the go (or not sitting at your computer).
The app was dreamed up when Brooklynites Matthew Rosenberg, Michael Constantiner, and Andy Thompson (who developed the new BB!), and a bunch of friends went to a concert at MSG and hadn’t picked a place to meet. Texting multiple friends at once only worked so well. (Not everyone replies to all, so not everyone sees the replies.) And arranging a conference call is annoying. So they came up with Fast Society to do both easily.
Unlike other group messaging services, you pick a set time frame for when you want to group text your hand-picked “team”–anywhere from 3 hours to 3 days–so you’re not group messaged endlessly by (well-intentioned) friends.
There are more enhancements in the pipeline, and apps for the Blackberry and Android are coming. But anyone with mobile web and SMS can create a team with it (just visit Fast Society on your phone), and anyone with SMS can use it. So you don’t actually need an app to try it when you’re hooking up with friends at Open House New York this weekend or at CMJ Music Marathon later this month. Fast Society is the official mobile sponsor, and they’re hosting a pretty incredible show Saturday, Oct. 23 that they’ll be announcing soon. Stay tuned @fastsociety to find out more.
