PETRA INTERVIEW 7/6/11
How is your music made?
Well, I’m a solo artist and that gives me a lot of freedom. I usually stumble upon great musicians while I am out gigging or doing session work as a musician. That leads me to asking them to produce some songs for me and so on. I create songs when the spirit moves me. I never force creativity. I would rather take my time and do a great record than throw one together on a deadline. I also enjoy when a songwriter bring me a great song that he or she would like me to sing. If the song clicks with me, I do it. I have no ego about singing other peoples stuff.
Do you have any hobbies?
I guess you could call me a “foodie.” I love to cook and I love to eat. Cooking is very creative. The whole process of finding ingredients and putting them into interesting combinations is fun to me. The most gratifying part is when I see people’s reaction to eating what I cook. Nine out of ten times they love it.
What type of food do you enjoy cooking the most?
I love to cook Italian. I think it amazing how you can take just a few high quality ingredients, put them together and make something that tastes great.
Are you currently in a relationship?
Yes, have started dating since my divorce last year.
Do you have kids?
No, but it is probably best that I don’t have them since child predators love to target the children of well known advocates. I don’t care what happens to me but if someone were to threaten my child, I would be forced to end my war on abuse.
What kind of person are you typically? I mean, what type of person do you see yourself as?
Well, I am a very simple person. I like being at home either taking care of the house or working on the computer. I’m not much of a materialistic person either. I don’t see the point in buying a name on a purse for $500. I would rather take that money and do something more productive with it.
What are your daily struggles?
I have been blessed in my career so I don’t struggle with that. I tend to struggle with my thoughts, like any other person who has lived through extensive abuse throughout their life. I have issues with trust, self image, self esteem, and anger. I go to therapy, attend church regularly, and do the best I can everyday.
What kind of church do you go to?
Right now I attend a nondenominational Christian church.
How is your relationship with your fans?
I think I have a great relationship with my fans. I respond to everyone that contacts me who is polite and respectful. I think they admire me because I put my face on this cause, and many people can’t do that. I also think they see me as a real person who is not “untouchable” like most public figures. Basically, they rock. I would not be who I am today without them.
Do you feel you have succeeded in your music career?
Well, in 2009, one of my idols Pat Benetar was in the audience where I was singing and approached me after my performance to tell me that I was a fabulous singer. I think I can die happy now! LOL
