Halo Haven was intended to be a side project to Brett and Erica’s other bands, StillFear and The Vaulted. Erica quit playing with The Vaulted shortly after forming Halo Haven, but Brett has been playing with StillFear since 2007. Curtis and Mike happened to be two of the original members of StillFear, but as we know, life takes us in different directions at times due to family and jobs, etc. so they both relocated for a time. Fortunately, when Brett and Erica put Halo Haven into action, Curtis and Mike were both available and back in Bend ready to play!
Erica started singing on youth group nights at a gospel church and wound up playing in a cover band for 10 years with the opportunity to open for Jimmy Buffet in Las Vegas, and moved on to create a few original bands in later years. After 15 years of singing in bands, she can’t see her life without music. Halo Haven came about because she sees music as her safe haven, a place to escape and release life’s troubles.
Brett found his passion for guitar at 13 years old and wound up teaching guitar at merely 18. He formed a few original bands, Vile Decent, Dexx (formed with his brother and sister, stemming from their last name Poindexter), and then StillFear, followed by Halo Haven. StillFear has had the opportunity to play with Powerman 5000 and many would say that Brett is a truly amazing musician and songwriter.
Curtis began playing drums in high school to influences such as Rush. By age 18 he decided he wanted to take on a more technical instrument so he picked up the bass. Curtis locked himself in his room for about 6 months doing nothing but playing bass and became quite good. His first few gigs were with a country band due to his family’s passion for country, but he found that it wasn’t really his thing, so he began to look for other musicians with similar influences. Brett found Curtis in an ad and they quickly formed StillFear. Although Curtis left the area for a time and had to quit the band, a family emergency brought him back to town and Brett asked him to play with Halo Haven.
Mike found his passion for drums at age 9 when a friend of the family brought over a drum set and set him loose. He was a natural and created his first band by age 12 and played throughout his teens in the Las Angeles area. In 1984 he moved to Oregon where he played in various bands, playing clubs in Salem, OR and then found himself moving to bend in ’88. Since 2001, Mike has played in various bands such as Holden Caulfield (now members of the local favorite, Tentareign), Inertia, and then StillFear and Open Defiance. Mike found himself back in Bend after struggling to find comparable musicians in a tiny town called Christmas Valley and before long, he was asked to play with Halo Haven.
