You'll find some the region’s best musicians and some of rock and roll's best music in DreamZ – which has one simple rule at their shows “rock out at all shows and give the bars and the crowds what they want.”
The group's Facebook page puts it out there straight up - “DreamZ is like candy - it leaves a hard rock taste, a sweet sound with a bad ass wrapper, around a tasty bit of true classic and alternative rock and roll.” Head out to any of the venues they play and you won't be disappointed.
The band is comprised of some of the finest musicians in Northwest Indiana - Starr Williams on lead vocals, David Perez/ Vojo - Lead Guitar, Glenn Curtis – Bass/Kevin Cox and Donny Mazinan/Johnny Santana– Drums. Collectively each member of DreamZ has plenty of experience performing over the years.
Williams started the group at the suggestion of a friend back in 2006. She was helping out with lights for Curtis's former band, GodZ N’ GunZ, and he suggested putting a tribute band together. With Williams' resemblance to Stevie Nicks, a Fleetwood Mac tribune band just seemed logical.
“I've always loved their music and felt I could do it justice,” Williams said, “so I went looking for musicians at local jam nights, found some that agreed after they heard me sing.” The group played its first show in January of 2007 at the old Rosie O'Grady’s on Main Street in Hobart. The still perform some tunes from Fleetwood Mac but now just play the tunes that make the crowds dance.
Since its beginnings, the band has undergone a few changes but Williams says the current line-up really clicks.
Williams belts out tunes not only as good as some of the great female musicians but as well as some of rock's foremost front men. She has also worked with Taxi, Good Times Band and played drums in Mountain Dew Jazz Band.
Lead guitarist David Perez can put licks together like two guitarists while playing leads from Van Halen, Led Zeppelin to Journey. His background includes stints with the bands OverDue, Tekila Rose etc.
Bass player Glenn Curtis' backgrounds includes working with a who's who of popular bands like Seven Ten, Premonition, GodZ and GunZ, Formula and The Rizen. A graduate of Hobart High School, Curtis works in his family's business and is actively involved in learning and teaching Combat Martial Arts and Self Defense.
Drummer Jeremy Dykhuizen helps to create the bursting intensity behind DreamZ. Jeremy's wild solos are his signature on stage. Jeremy also played in Overdue –
“I feel the current lineup is absolutely the best ever,” said Williams. “When we all got together for the first time, it was scary... we all felt like a huge click registered in our brains. We all agreed we’ve been searching for this type of group for a long time, the fact that we all get along so well and have so much in common makes it a pleasure to be a part of too.”
The group covers a wide range of music and gets a feel for what the crowd wants at each show.Their sets includes classic rock like Aerosmith/ ACDC/ Led Zeppelin/ Rush, alternative like Buck Cherry /Alice in Chains/ Nickelback and dance tunes from Pink/ INXS/Lady Gaga, HaleStorm and so much more.
The group has played all over Northwest Indiana and parts of IL. And MI. and appreciates the fans that come out to the shows.
“People here really seem to enjoy their live entertainment and appreciate live music. It's a region blessed with a rich talent pool of musicians, singers and writers,” noted Williams.
Williams said the group is also appreciative of the support that area bands get from media outlets such as Tom Lounges of X-Rock 103.9 and the NWI Entertainer as she herself runs Barbands on Facebook and MySpace for the region and Manages Fort Wayne Our City Radio, along with Zombie Bouquet and Running Pa with Glenn for Gr8 Sound Audio.
