Pushpinder "Push" Khalon aka Shawn Cayce is a 23 year-old Punjabi rapper from the eastern SF Bay Area. Shawn Cayce is an alias created by Push to engender a fearless and incomparable persona. The alias holds great personal significance to push, with Cayce being derived from the late sleeping prophet Edgar Cayce, and Shawn acquired from Shawn Hunter, a character from Boy Meets World.Push picked up his craft young, discovering his natural rhyming talent at the age of nine, thanks to a fourth grade homework assignment. Reluctant to introduce his interest in Hip Hop music to a traditional Indian household, Push developed the habit of writing in his head to keep his creations secret. After high school, Push apprehensively entered medical school, emphatically telling his parents that he did not see himself thriving in medicine. The stint in medical school only lasted six months before his abrupt, willfully defiant decision to drop out and seek a musical career. The lack of understanding and enveloping ignorance of the (presumably) dead Indian class system lead to Push being kicked out of and renounced from his family's household. In short, his parents believe that a member of their household (class) isn't living up to his or her potential if he or she is going to become a "singer". However, Push took the troubles in stride, and immediately began working on getting his music out to the world. In 2008, Push released his first mixtape, Genesis, which was the first in a four-part mixtape series called the Daily Prophet, the others being Xodus, New Testament, and Revelation. The mixtapes were named so as to stay away from the cliché of Mixtape Vol. 1, 2, 3, etc. In the fall of 2009, Push submitted his music to Def Jam Records, who felt the work was too wide-ranging musically to be marketed to a particular audience. A couple months later, Push released his fifth mixtape, Faith or Failure, which was a ten day recording and writing surge. Faith or Failure was a substantial change in direction through which Push fostered the philosophy and mentality needed to succeed in a somewhat insincere industry. June of 2010 marked the release of The Essentials: A Perfect Mixtape. Three singles from The Essentials were sent to Shady Records and Atlantic Records. Both labels told Push to keep sending music, and when they felt he had created a "hit" they would consider signing him. He told both labels that this seemed counterproductive; Push figured that if a label wants him to provide a hit without the label's help, the label is simply trying to make him do all of the work while he concludes with less than 10% of the profits. Convinced that the future of the music business isn't with major labels, Push is working with a talented group of independent thinkers and entrepreneurs to build HEMi NATiON Records and Thyrd World Media. In the summer of 2010, Push launched HEMi NATiON Records with the help of his friend Tha Suspekt, a Punjabi rap artist from Houston. The name is short for, "Help Every Man in Need And Trust intuition Over Nurture," with the letters "i" in lower case to emphasize that an "individual" should always place his or her needs second and consider the betterment of the whole society. Thyrd World Media is a group of young people who articulate their perception of life and reality through artistic expression. Ranging from actors, singers, song writers, rappers, directors, and graphic designers, Thyrd World Media is a collective dedicated to the freedom of expression in all forms. An acronym Push devised in medical school explains it best: "The Home to Young Rebellious Dreamers Who Observe Reality's Lithe Definition Making Eternal Denominations to Individuality and Art."By autumn 2010, Push released his seventh mixtape, HEMi-GOD, and shows no signs of slowing down despite crafting seven such mixtapes in the period of two years.  Followed by an abudance of more release, in 2012 Push is working on his debut EP and perfecting his sound. With such a work ethic, and his patently obvious natural talent, Push's star is a rising one.
